MBKM Independent Internship at Bali Japanic

I’m Rheina Edgidia Kencana, a student of the Japanese Literature Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Udayana University, class of 2022, had the opportunity to participate in the Independent MBKM Internship Program at Bali Japanic. During the internship period, which took place from March 10 to June 26 2025. I gained a very valuable opportunity to develop myself both academically and non-academically.

Bali Japanic is a vocational training institution that focuses on Japanese language education and work culture preparation for students who aim to go to Japan to work. Through this program, I not only had the chance to experience the real atmosphere of the professional world, but I also gained practical experiences that cannot be obtained in a regular classroom setting. During the internship, I was assigned the primary role of a Japanese language instructor, teaching every day from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM WITA. The teaching materials included basic grammar, vocabulary mastery, and the teaching of kanji.

At the beginning of the teaching process, I faced a challenge in the form of a lack of confidence due to my limited experience in formal teaching activities. This made me feel awkward and worried about whether the material I delivered could be well understood by the participants. However, through guidance from the Bali Japanic staffs and the many opportunities to practice teaching every day, my confidence gradually began to grow. 

I learned to overcome nervousness by preparing lessons as thoroughly as possible, practicing delivery, and accepting constructive feedback from mentors. Through consistent practice, I was able to improve the way I presented lessons, making them clearer and more effective, while also building better interactions with the training participants.

In addition to teaching, Bali Japanic also entrusted me with helping to design promotional media such as pamphlets and Instagram content, which in turn honed my skills in visual communication and the use of graphic design applications. This activity helped me understand that the professional world demands flexibility and skills beyond one’s main field of expertise. Throughout more than four months of participating in this program, I gained many benefits, such as improved communication skills, time management abilities, the development of soft skills like problem-solving and creativity, as well as a deeper understanding of Japanese work culture. This experience also strengthened my character to become more confident, disciplined, and ready to face professional challenges in the future. I feel grateful for the opportunity to learn about the field of teaching, and moving forward, I hope to further explore this area so that I can continue to grow and make a greater contribution in the future.
