Studying at Osaka University through the MEXT University to University (U to U) Scholarship Program

I am incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to receive the MEXT University to University (U to U) scholarship at Osaka University. This is a fully-funded scholarship, where everything from airfare and student visas to a monthly stipend of 120,000 yen is provided by MEXT. My time there was truly unforgettable, as I was able to experience life in a country with four seasons while studying at a prestigious university.

In the beginning, the academic workload at Osaka University felt quite heavy. However, once I adapted, I truly began to enjoy my studies. The campus is home to many international students from Asia and even Europe, which allowed me to build an extensive network of global connections.

Beyond academics, living in Japan taught me how to manage my finances. I began budgeting by cooking my own meals and buying groceries at Gyomu Super, a budget-friendly wholesale supermarket. By managing my finances well, I was able to explore various regions, such as Okinawa, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Hokkaido, Aomori, and Ishikawa, truly enjoying my life as an international student.

One thing I will never forget is my first experience at a hot spring (onsen). The culture of entering the baths completely naked was quite a shock at first, as we don't have that tradition in Indonesia. Additionally, I had an experience where I lost my bag containing my passport and laptop on a train. Although I panicked and reported it to the police, I was deeply impressed by their kind and reassuring service. Fortunately, my belongings were returned the very next day after I contacted the train's service center.

I would like to express my gratitude to the Sensei-gata (teachers) who assisted me throughout the scholarship application process, as well as my friends who always supported me. This has been an unforgettable journey. For those of you seeking scholarships, I highly recommend looking into Japan. Besides improving your Japanese language skills, this opportunity will significantly broaden your horizons.
