The Achievement of Amanda Kirana Yamin in Winning 3rd Place in the MONOFORIA 2026 Essay and Debate Competition

The MONOFORIA 2026 Essay and Debate Competition is an event organized by the Faculty of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at Universitas Pendidikan Nasional. Held from March 6–12, 2026, the competition successfully attracted the attention of high school and university students from various institutions, including SMA Negeri 4 Denpasar, SMA Kristen Harapan, Poltekkes Kemenkes Denpasar, and Universitas Brawijaya. The competition took place throughout March 2026, with the winners announced on March 30 and the award ceremony held on April 1, 2026.

In this competition, Amanda successfully secured 3rd place in the essay category, which offered three subthemes: Digital Health, Screen Time, and Cyberbullying. She chose to focus on Digital Health through her essay titled “Navigating Adolescent Brain Development Toward Healthy Digital Adaptation.”

Amanda explained that the selection of her theme and title was carefully considered to ensure her essay would capture the readers’ attention. The idea for her essay stemmed from her personal experience with “brain rot.” From that experience, she was motivated to explore what was happening to her and later share her insights along with practical solutions that could be easily applied by others.

Interestingly, Amanda only needed two days to complete her essay. However, the writing process was not always smooth. She admitted experiencing moments of writer’s block and self-doubt, especially as she had to compete with participants from health-related academic backgrounds.

After the writing stage, participants were required to present their work. Each participant was given 10 minutes to present their material, followed by a Q&A session with two judges, each allocated five minutes. Amanda delivered her presentation effectively. She successfully incorporated concepts from Japanese culture into her essay discussion. In addition, her engaging and enjoyable presentation style was considered a strong advantage by the judges.

In closing, Amanda shared tips for others interested in joining similar competitions. She suggested choosing a challenging subtheme to avoid producing work that feels too general or monotonous. If the selected topic is outside one’s field of expertise, participants should conduct thorough research. She also emphasized the importance of presenting unique ideas while ensuring they are conveyed in clear and accessible language.
