Udayana University and Osaka International University Strengthen Academic Collaboration through a Joint Research Program

Denpasar, December 1, 2025 — The Japanese Literature Study Program of Udayana University successfully held the Final Presentation of the Udayana–OIC Joint Research Project as part of its international collaboration with Osaka International College/Osaka International University (OIC/OIU). The event was conducted online via Zoom at 09:50 WITA / 10:50 JST.

The program was coordinated by Silvia, S.S., M.Hum., lecturer of the Japanese Literature Study Program at Udayana University, and Morita-sensei, Associate Professor of the Life Design Department at Osaka International University. The event was attended by Dr. Ito, Vice Rector of OIU, Taniguchi, Head of the International Exchange Center of OIU, 10 students from OIU/OIC, and 15 students from Udayana University as active participants.

This joint research program, which has been running since September 2025, involved eight research groups consisting of students from both universities. Each group explored cultural and social issues in Indonesia and Japan and presented their research findings for six to seven minutes per group.

The first group discussed a comparison of traditional cultures in Indonesia and Japan, presented by Dicky Huang and Dewa Ayu Made Mina Lestari. The second group examined Japanese and Indonesian food culture, presented by Deshon Leos and Fransisca Manalu. The third group analyzed differences in social values between Japan and Indonesia, presented by Yasa Aditiya Sutanto.

The fourth group discussed young people’s future visions, presented by Martyn Christian Redondo Gultom and I Putu Edwin Wahyu Saputra. The fifth group explored differences in social media and trends, presented by I Gusti Ayu Subhita Parwati and Ni Made Mariasih. The sixth group analyzed similarities and differences in food culture, presented by Chandra Andhika Putra and Gede Budi Hartawan.

The seventh group examined interpersonal relationships and differences in communication styles, presented by Larry Antonius Wijaya and Given Rian Yaputra. The eighth group analyzed a comparison of education systems and learning perspectives in Japan and Indonesia, presented by I Kadek Ryota Aimono and Dito Dwi Fardiansyah.

One of the participants, Dicky Huang, a 2023 cohort student of the Japanese Literature Study Program at Udayana University, stated that this was his first experience participating in an international research project with Japanese students. He emphasized that the program significantly improved his intercultural communication skills and expanded his international academic network.

The event concluded with an evaluation session and remarks from Dr. Ito, Vice Rector of OIU, followed by the distribution of certificates of completion and an online group photo session at 11:05 WITA.

Through this joint research program, the academic partnership between Udayana University and Osaka International University is expected to continue strengthening and to contribute positively to the development of students’ global competencies.
