On Monday and Friday, August 4 and 8, 2022, the Japanese Literature Study Program held a Community Service Program at TK Negeri Desa Negari, Banjarangkan District, Klungkung Regency. This program was carried out through the Udayana Menabdi Grant Program (PUM) of Udayana University. It successfully sparked children's interest in learning about disasters and how to respond appropriately.

The program leader, Silvia Damayanti, emphasized the importance of providing disaster preparedness training, especially for early childhood. Young children are particularly vulnerable to becoming victims when disasters occur. The program aimed to improve earthquake and tsunami preparedness among the kindergarten students through literature-based education, namely by using kamishibai (picture-card storytelling) with the title “Naga Boga and Naga Besuki” and the educational song “ Kalau Ada Gempa” (When an Earthquake Strikes). Both methods were designed to make children more engaged, learn in a fun way, and easily understand disaster-related material that is often frightening or overwhelming for their age.

In addition to knowledge about earthquakes and tsunamis, the program also included earthquake and evacuation drills. The kindergarten students enthusiastically participated in the simulations, and positive results were achieved. Their skills in responding to earthquakes and tsunamis improved significantly. The students of TK Negeri Desa Negari are now no longer afraid of earthquake and tsunami disasters. Instead, they are prepared and alert in facing such an emergency.
