INDEPENDENT INTERNSHIP PROGRAM (MBKM) AT BOMBORA BALANGAN RESORT

Monday, January 27, 2025, I, Ni Made Ayu Senja Pratiwi, a 2022 student of the Japanese Literature Study Program at Udayana University, participated in the Independent Internship Program (MBKM) in the 6th semester. The internship lasted for six months, from January 27, 2025, to July 27, 2025, at Bombora Balangan Resort, where I served as an assistant manager.
Although my academic background is not in hospitality, this did not become an obstacle for me. In fact, I remained enthusiastic throughout the internship, especially because I frequently interacted with Japanese guests. This gave me the opportunity to practice my Japanese language skills in real-life situations and deepen my understanding of their culture.
During the internship, I worked 8 hours a day in two different shifts: the morning shift from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and the evening shift from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM. My main responsibilities included assisting guests with the check-in and check-out process, promptly responding to various complaints from in-house guests, and inputting and recording the monthly financial data into the resort’s administrative system. I also collaborated closely with other departments such as housekeeping, kitchen, and maintenance to ensure smooth and satisfying service for all guests.
The direct interaction with guests was an invaluable experience for me. In addition to improving my foreign language skills, it boosted my self-confidence and increased my sensitivity to cultural differences. Of course, I also faced challenges, such as adapting to the intense shift schedule, dealing with different personalities and working styles, and meeting the high service standards expected by the guests. Fortunately, the team at Bombora was very supportive and friendly, always providing guidance and encouragement that helped me adjust well and grow professionally.
This internship broadened my perspective on the real-world hospitality industry, offered hands-on work experience, and enriched my cross-cultural communication skills. I also learned the importance of teamwork, accuracy in administration, and problem-solving abilities in urgent situations. This experience has become a valuable foundation that connects my academic knowledge in Japanese literature with real-life professional practice in the hospitality field—something I believe will be highly beneficial for my future career.
