Implementation of Independent Internship MBKM Activities at UPTD Monument of the Balinese People's Struggle

My name’s Anak Agung Sagung Istri Pradnya Mahapurnayanti, and I am a 7th semester student studying at Udayana University. I participated in the Independent Internship MBKM program organized by Udayana University which directly cooperates with government agencies, namely the Bali Provincial Cultural Office. The Bali Provincial Culture Office offers 6 work units that will divide students into groups according to the quantity needed in each unit, namely the History and Historical Documentation Division, the Tradition and Cultural Heritage Division, the Cultural Heritage and Museum Division, UPTD. Taman Budaya of the Bali Provincial Cultural Office, UPTD. Monument to the Struggle of the Balinese People, UPTD Museum Bali.

At the beginning of semester 7, I registered for the MBKM Independent Internship program held by the Bali Provincial Cultural Office, precisely at the UPTD of the Bali People's Struggle Monument. This MBKM program provides an opportunity for students to gain direct field practice experience in a company, before entering the professional career world. This program is designed to enrich students' academic knowledge with valuable experience provided by each company. Thus, students can hone practical skills and knowledge that they can apply in the real world of work after graduation. At the beginning of the semester, students who take part in this program are required to come to report to the Bali Provincial Cultural Office to get more information about the work system that applies to the six agencies that will be filled by students who take part in the program.

By participating in internship activities at government-owned agencies, it can provide benefits for internship students who want to hone their hard skills and soft skills in a job. In order to increase the opportunities for students who want to enter the world of careers in the future. In participating in the independent MBKM Internship program, the benefits that I got during my internship at the UPTD Monument to the Struggle of the Balinese People were that I could increase my theoretical understanding of the history and struggle of the Balinese people. Students can learn and understand the concepts and philosophies that reflect elements of Balinese historical and cultural values at the Bajra Sandhi Monument, and provide practical experience by dealing with daily work related to monument maintenance and management and can develop practical skills such as, historical interpretation for tourists, and communication skills with visitors.

The implementation of this Independent Internship MBKM activity is not only limited to learning in the form of theory in the office area, but students are also encouraged to be active in conducting surveys and data collection processes for visitors who enter the Bali People's Struggle Monument. Students are not only given learning limited to theory, but students are encouraged to participate in assisting the data collection process as well as going directly to the field which is not small to interact with local and foreign visitors, such as, recording visitors who attend exhibition events, and serving visitors who want to ask questions about information related to the philosophy of the monument building and the history of the struggle of the Balinese people in general to make a monthly recap of visit data both from school groups in the city and outside the city.

Thus, the Independent Internship MBKM activity organized by Udayana University in collaboration with the Bali Provincial Cultural Office has a positive impact in the form of valuable experience for students who wish to build a career in the future. Students not only provide knowledge in the form of theory, but also involve students directly in the process of management, service, and interaction with visitors to the Bali People's Struggle Monument.
