Internship at Sheraton Bali Kuta Resort- September 6 until December 31, 2024

My name is Ni Komang Ari Kurnia, a seventh-semester student majoring in Japanese Literature at Udayana University. This semester, I participated in the Certified Independent Study and Internship Program (MSIB) organized in collaboration with Kampus Merdeka and PT. Indonesian Paradise Island, Sheraton Bali Kuta Resort. This program provides the opportunity to gain direct work experience for a full semester, particularly in the international five-star hospitality industry.

I chose the Spa & Recreation Department as my internship placement because I wanted to explore and develop my potential. This placement became both a challenge and an opportunity for me, as I had no prior experience in the spa industry. However, through this program, I was given the chance to learn from scratch, both through technical training and direct guidance from mentors. Every day was a learning process, starting from understanding guest needs, preparing treatment rooms, to practicing spa treatments such as body scrubs, foot massages, and back massages. The guidance of mentors who were always open to providing feedback became one of the aspects I appreciated the most. They not only supported me in trying new things but also provided direction and constructive feedback that helped me grow. I learned to overcome nervousness, adapt to a new work environment, and understand operational details that I had never imagined before.

Another invaluable experience was the direct interaction with guests from various backgrounds. I was able to practice my Japanese language skills with Japanese guests I met in the spa and gym areas, as well as improve my English communication skills through daily conversations with international guests. This experience significantly boosted my confidence and courage in speaking. The benefits of this program are immense. I gained new experiences that not only enriched my knowledge about the hospitality industry but also helped me build my ability to adapt to challenges. This experience taught me that with effort and proper guidance, I could overcome challenges in a field entirely new to me. Every challenge I encountered felt meaningful because there was always a lesson to be learned. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to be part of the MSIB program. I hope this program continues to thrive, allowing more students to learn and grow in a real work environment.
