MSIB program Indonesia Sustainable Social Forestry Education Program Batch 5 PT. Amati Karya Indonesia

My name is Natsuki Soma, a fourth-year student at the Japanese Literature study program, Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University. In this semester, I registered for the MSIB program at Udayana University, which is an off-campus learning activity that teaches about social forestry. I registered at the end of semester 6, which began with finding out information about the MSIB MBKM Program through social media and information from the academic study program. Then around July, when registration was opened, I first confirmed with the Academic Advisor and his approval. Only after that I prepared the registration files with the help of sensei, academic ladies and gentlemen, and also friends. After registering and waiting for the announcement, I was very happy to be accepted into the MBKM Internship and Certified Independent Study Program so that I had the opportunity to study outside the campus which could broaden my horizons.

During the Independent Study program at Udayana University, I got many interesting activities. These activities are divided into several activities, namely online lectures, doing projects, and project presentations. Starting with online lectures in August 2023, online lectures teach basic knowledge about social forestry topics. A lot of materials are of course presented by environmental and forestry leaders who have a lot of experience in their fields. Here I gained knowledge about social forestry and awareness of sustainable living which is certainly very useful for me in the future in continuing the Independent Study program. Furthermore, after the online lectures, there was a project that I worked on until the end of the program. During this period, AMATI Indonesia still provided several online classes through Zoom Meeting. I got a project in the form of identifying problems experienced by MSMEs in villages related to non-timber products such as honey production, and also providing solutions to these problems. From there I gained experience in applying growth mindset, and honing business skills to optimize the potential of non-timber forests as a means of improving the welfare of communities around the forest. I also gained professional knowledge and awareness to be skilled in natural and environmental challenges with the Forest Management and Conservation Program (FMCP), as well as getting to know how the distribution of natural / forest resource benefits can be inclusive and have an impact on forest communities through the Non-timber Forest Products Development Program (NTFP-DP) briefing. After doing the project, the project was presented online through a Zoom Meeting, which was attended by Independent Study participants and mentors of each group.

The benefits of this Independent Study activity in addition to gaining knowledge that is not obtained in the current study program, the benefits obtained from this MBKM activity are that young people like me become aware of environmental and community problems and can solve real problems of sustainable development that occur in the field, especially in the field of social forestry.

I am very happy to be able to complete this MBKM MSIB program with other friends. There are so many new and interesting experiences that I have not previously had in the Japanese Literature study program environment, of course this can add to my insight into learning outside the campus, namely Independent Study. Moreover, I am very happy because I got the opportunity to study at the company where I did my Independent Study, because it is an experience that I have never experienced before. Thank you for the opportunity sensei, and the MBKM Independent Study program. It has been a very rewarding experience. In the end, I can say that this is a fun MBKM program, I can recommend to friends to take part in the MBKM Entrepreneurship program for friends who want to take part in learning outside the campus.
