Study at Osaka University with the JASSO Scholarship

Hello! My name is Morioka Marina, a fourth-year student at Udayana University, Faculty of Humanities, Japanese Literature Department. First of all, I am very happy to be able to share my experience of studying in Japan in this article. Studying at a Japanese university is the dream of all students especially if you get a scholarship from the Japanese government is an honor. This dream was realized when I got the opportunity to take the scholarship selection test held at my department.

The test consisted of several stages, namely document selection, essay writing, and interview. I tried my best to pass and on February 28, 2022 I was nominated as a scholarship recipient. Without thinking twice, I immediately chose my dream university, Osaka University abbreviated as Handai, is a public research university located in Osaka Prefecture, Japan. It is one of Japan's former Imperial Universities and a Designated National University listed as a "Top Type" university in the Top Global University Project.

However, it didn't end there. I had to go through a few more tests such as a Japanese language proficiency test and essay writing in order to get the JASSO scholarship. The Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) is an organization under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan. As a leading organization in the provision of student services, JASSO comprehensively administers scholarship and loan programs, support programs for international students, and student life support programs.

After waiting for 3 months, on May 30, 2022 I was officially accepted as an exchange student and had the opportunity to study at Osaka University for 1 year with a JASSO scholarship. There are no words that I can express how happy I was at that time and after going through several document processes, I left for Japan on September 19, 2022.

Of course, during my 1-year study in Japan, I experienced many ups and downs. However, these things made me stronger and had a lot of life experience especially since this was the first time I lived in a dormitory with students from various countries. Studying at Osaka University was a lot of fun, I learned many new things and my Japanese is getting better in my daily communication. Not only did we learn in class, but we also had the opportunity to study outside while seeing Japanese culture firsthand so our knowledge of Japanese culture and society really grew and expanded.

My journey will not stop here, I hope that in the future I can get more opportunities to learn new things and can share my knowledge with my friends and the next generation. I also hope that those of you reading this article can realize your dream of studying in Japan one day.
